Cancer Research UK’s Philip Almond on legacy, lessons and long-lasting brands
After announcing he will retire from Cancer Research UK next year, Philip Almond reflects on a marketing career spanning roles at Diageo, Burger King and the BBC.
From food and drink to media and charities, Philip Almond’s almost 40-year long career has taken him across a variety of sectors and audiences.
Almond recently announced his intention to retire from his role of executive director of marketing, fundraising and engagement at Cancer Research UK in May next year.
Coming from an arts and theatre background at university, he assumed strategy-based roles in societies while studying at Cambridge University. Treating these roles like “businesses” sparked his interest in marketing. Post-university, Almond went into consultancy, then decided to do an MBA to garner more experience before launching into a marketing career.
