As Musk alleges “paid” protestors are opposing his work with DOGE, Tesla’s CFO recognises “unwanted hostility” is harming the brand.

Elon Musk has slammed “paid” protests against his work within the US government, as Tesla claims “near-term challenges” with its brand image have contributed to a 71% fall in profits.

The electric car giant’s profits for Q1 2025 fell 71% to $409m (£306m) compared with the $1.39bn (£1.04bn) in net income generated the previous year. Tesla also recorded a 20% year-on-year drop in total automotive revenue, falling from $17.3bn (£13bn) in Q1 2024 to $14bn (£10.5bn).

Total revenue fell 9% year-on-year to $19.3bn (£14.5bn).
